The Colorado Avalanche have had an interesting history. They started out in the world of professional hockey in a different city with a different name. They also started their life in a different hockey league. The Quebec Nordiques were established in 1972 as part of the 12-team World Hockey Association. The league struggled to gain momentum and when the WHA and NHL merged in 1979 the Nordiques were one of four remaining teams to join the National Hockey League. The Nordiques were sold 1995 and relocated in Denver, Colorado. Denver was once the home of a previous NHL team, the Colorado Rockies. The Nordiques were renamed the Avalanche and continued to play the type of hockey that history books are written about. In addition to two Stanley Cups, the Avalanche have a number of trophies and awards collected since moving to the Mile High City. Hockey pucks with the “snow slide A” logo on them are special collectibles and if you have one you’ll want to keep it in one of our Colorado Avalanche Single Hockey Puck Display Cases.
