The Dallas Stars entered the NHL back in 1967 as part of the first major expansion in NHL history. A total of six teams joined the league at that time including California Golden Seals, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and the St. Louis Blues. The Dallas Stars entered the league with those teams as the Minnesota North Stars. The North Stars participated in an expansion draft that saw players from the ‘Original Six’ teams protected. The first draft pick for Minnesota was goalie Cesare Maniago from New York Rangers.
Their second round pick was another goalie, Garry Bauman from Montreal. The best known expansion draft pick of the team was right winger Bill Goldsworthy who had played for Boston and was picked by the North Stars in the 11th round. Sports collectors look at all these stats when it comes to adding sports items to their collection. Minnesota North Stars hockey pucks would be highly collectible, for example.
