The Edmonton Oilers have retired a total of seven hockey jersey numbers. For jersey collectors, this is a great place to start a collection. The Oilers retired jerseys worn by Al Hamilton (#3) who played from 1972-1980, Paul Coffey (#7, 1980-1987), Glenn Anderson (#9, 1980-1991, 1995-1996), Mark Messier (#11, 1979-1991), Jari Kurri (#17, 1980-1990), Grant Fuhr (#31, 1981-1991) and Wayne Gretzky (#99, 1978-1988).

Any of those jerseys would be highly collectible and would put a lot of history into any hockey collection. The majority of those players were on the team during the 1980s when the Edmonton Oilers won all five of their Stanley Cups.

When you consider the Edmonton Oilers started out as one of the ‘Original 12’ WHA teams and ended up one of four surviving teams to be merged into the NHL in 1979, it is amazing to think that this team may not have become the team it did had the merger not taken place. If you have any of these special hockey jerseys, you’ll want to protect them in our Edmonton Oilers Jersey Display Case.
