The New York Islanders have had a total of forty-four goalies play on their team in the forty-four years the team has been on ice. Only one of them has had his jersey number retired and that was Billy Smith who wore #31. Smith joined the team in their first season and played with the Islanders until 1989. It was during his time with the team that the Islanders won all four of their Stanley Cups. They also won those Championships four seasons in a row. The early 1980s was when the New York Islanders ruled the NHL and Smith was the king of the goal crease. He played so aggressively that he scored a record for the most career penalty minutes earned by a goalie. The New York Islanders also benefited from a strong rivalry between them and the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. Hockey mini helmets are great sports collectibles and if you have one you’ll want to keep it in our New York Islanders Horizontal View Mini Hockey Helmet Display Case.
