The Winnipeg Jets have only one officially retired jersey number, and that is #99 which was retired league-wide to honor Wayne Gretzky. Jersey #9, which was worn by hockey great Bobby Hull, had been retired by the original Winnipeg franchise.

Atlanta Thrashers player Evander Kane sought and received permission from Hull to wear that number when the team relocated to Winnipeg. He had been wearing it in Atlanta, and the new Jets franchise encouraged Kane to keep using it. Kane didn’t feel comfortable with that and personally contacted Hull to get his okay. Jersey #37 has not been reissued since the death of Atlanta player Dan Snyder.

Snyder was killed in a car crash in 2003, and although his number has not been officially retired, it has not been worn by another Atlanta or Winnipeg player since. If you have an autographed jersey, store it in our Winnipeg Jets Jersey Display Case.
