Museum Quality UV Acrylic

When it comes to keeping your collectibles and memorabilia safe for all time, you need to ensure you have only the best in state of the art ultra-violet (UV) protection. Without it, you will lose the value and the quality of your sports keepsake from fading, which in turn will start to degrade your investment and memories.

Regular acrylic cases will allow fading over time and lower the quality of your sports memorabilia. And this of course, lowers the value in your keepsake. While regular acrylic has some UV protection, it's minimal and just won't get the job done. Don't be fooled by those that tell you otherwise. Standard acrylic simply doesn't have the level of protection required to ensure the quality of your collectible stands the test of time.

What you need is the industry leading standard in museum quality ultra-violet protection. And that's what we do here at Sports Display Cases.

Understanding the extra cost

Don't be fooled by other sports case dealer's claims of UV protection.  It needs to be at least 98.0%+ Museum Quality UV. The side effect is that this material costs 4X the amount of regular acrylic. There's no way around it. Others’ claims of 50, 60 and 70% are most likely not accurate and appear to be used in an attempt to fool you. Your first hint is usually the cost of the case. At the end of the day they simply cannot be made with Museum Quality UV. It's a fact.

Why does it cost more when done properly? That's because the UV protection is done in the actual manufacturing process of the acrylic.  It is not a film or added coat.  In fact, a properly UV protected case will have a very slight amber, blue or green hue to it. Again, it's very slight and doesn't interfere with clarity of viewing of the collectible. At the end of the day, it's always worth doing.

Not ALL of our cases come with the state of the art UV protection, it is an option that can be added. Be sure to add it to your purchase. It's well worth the extra investment. We don't profit from the added extra, we simply care about your collectible memorabilia.

Making the right decision

Again, we don't make any extra from your choice to upgrade your casing. It's not about the money for us. It's about us caring. We feel our customers need to know upfront the risks involved with not getting a proper UV protected case or a case that makes claims about the level or protection that they're offering.

When comparing our cases to our competitors, be sure to ask them what the actual UV protection percentage is and hey, even ask them to put it in writing (that will help avoid the pretenders). Ask them for the spec sheet even. You don't want 60-70% protection. That's just not going to cut it.

From our UV acrylic manufacturers;

When compared to regular acrylic, the material will have a very slight amber, blue or green hue.  This hue does not interfere with clarity and will not in any way distract from the viewing of your item. It is almost invisible. Some applications, such as fine art and documentation preservation, require a material that absorbs more ultraviolet (UV) energy than ordinary glass with absorbing visible light. ACRYLITE® UV filtering (OP3), Plexiglas® G UF-3, Plexiglas® MC UF-5 and Plaskolite Optix Grade UVF standard acrylic sheet are some of the finishes and materials that are used and filter out up to 99% of UV rays, as well as some visible light while maintaining the full range of physical properties associated with standard Plexiglas sheets.  All offer spectrophotometric characteristics that enable them to filter out harmful UV energy.

We are extremely proud of the fact that ours is the industry leader in UV protection. When it comes time to purchase your next sports display case, do the right thing. Spend a little extra. Then rest assured that your sports collectible will stand the test of time and that your investment is safe with us.
